Urban Angels

Project Profile

Description and Objectives

Urban Angels is a Social Project developed by the Crossed Waves Initiative to be executed through partnerships with Local Churches with objectives that go from taking youths off of the streets and giving them something to do, to training individuals to offer one-to-one counseling to youngsters on the spot – on the streets – when and where it is needed most.

The project consists of 3 phases:

1 – Training of teams of Urban Angels to be deployed in a certain areas (we will be recruiting people that live in the community and know its problems and hotspots). The basic level of the training is 5 weeks long (a 2 hour session per week of theory, assessed through assignments to be given at the end of each session) with an extra 3 weeks for those invited to take the challenge to proceed to a leadership level. The training will consist of notions of peer to peer techniques and counseling as well as Home Office approved material dealing with how to act and react when approaching intoxicated subjects, assessing risk and how to act upon the assessment.

2 – Deployment of the teams and establishing a venue to serve as a regional HQ (Base Group) where the Urban Angels (and the community members the Urban Angels have already reached) can participate in activities such as workshops in music, film-making, photography, design, fashion as well as seek help with day to day issues, counseling and gain general support.

3 – Opening communication channels between the community, churches and the authorities of the region in order to form bonds of collaboration between the three parts to try and eradicate problems from the streets. Marking Presence, making every Urban Angel available when and where needed.

Aside from the days where groups will meet up to go on outreach missions there will be a regular day for prayer and edification for the members of the Urban Angels Team.

OBS: The course and membership of the Urban Angels will not be restricted to one single congregation and it is to be treated as an inter-denominational venture. The course will be free of charge aside from the sale of tools such as booklets, uniforms and an administrative fee of £15. Urban Angels’ ID cards will arrive by post following successful completion of the course.

Participants of the Urban Angels Program are invited to participate in the events and activities of any of the churches partnering the project but are under no circumstances pressured to become a member to any of said churches. The decision to become a member is down to the participants’ own choice and convenience.

Responsibilities and Partners

Any ministry or business that teams up with CWI for the implementation and running of the project is considered to be a partner of the project. All partners have an equal voice in the decisions taken in administrative assemblies to be held quarterly.

Each Base Group is to have its own Leadership and governing body which is to be responsible and made accountable for the running of it’s activities, however the ultimate responsibility for the Urban Angels Program falls to the Crossed Waves Initiative.

Fundraising

Any social project needs fund-raising for its sound running. Although the teams are essentially composed of volunteers there are costs to be considered, such as the cost of events and the running of workshops. The Crossed Waves Initiative has taken into its own hands the raising of these funds by promoting fundraising events and the services provided by our business partners in exchange for which our business partners have agreed to donate part of the profits for the services offered.

Urban Angels Base Groups are encouraged to promote events and other activities to raise funds for the implementation of their own projects and events; however they must be supervised and audited by the Crossed Waves Initiative to ensure appropriate usage of funds and resources. Reports must be submitted to the CWI at the end of each event.

Donations can also be made directly to the CWI, who will manage funds and resources according to the organization’s needs and the needs of its branches.

A report with all activities and funds raised through these enterprises will be made available via the CWI’s website at the end of each year.
