The world economy continues to dominate headlines and will continue to do so for months into the future. Why is the world experiencing this upheaval? There are many fundamental causes for this crisis, but there is one prime reason that you will not hear in any other news report.

Most people do not understand the Bible lays out a financial blueprint for economic stability. You can read about it in Leviticus 25. It is called the law of the Jubilee. Essentially, it is a 50-year cycle of land and debt management, which covers virtually all aspects of an economy. God laid down the law as part of ancient Israel’s constitution. It sets forth a balanced and equitable system that, when followed, could create wealth, social equity and strong families. Many of the social ills found among modern nations could be alleviated through this system revealed by God in the Bible.

The problem is that no nation has ever followed the law of the Jubilee. Not even ancient Israel, to whom it was given, practiced its principles for long. No country today would even dare implement its principles. It is a forgotten law.

Events over recent months have created a dire situation among the nations of th world and in the world of international finances. Natural disaters adversely affect the economy. For instance, The Times of 10 of Setember harolds that Britain is facing its worst harvest for the least 40 years as thirty per cent of the country’s grain lies in waterlogged or sodden ground. After nearly two centuries of humiliation and decline, the imperial Chinese Dragon is stirring again and moving purposefully toward the center of the world stage. China, once termed “a slumbering giant” and the “sick man of Asia,” is rapidly emerging as the new epicenter of Asian industry, trade, finance—and military power!  As the most populous nation on earth with the world’s largest army, newly assertive China is generating concern throughout East Asia and beyond. This ancient and cunning “dragon” is determined to reclaim a position of dominance in the 21st century that she believes is rightfully hers. Today’s headlines focus on the political campaign and the economic crisis. Who will win the White House this November, Republicans or Democrats? Will another major financial institution go bankrupt, signalling further weakness of the economy? There are many urgent problems confronting today’s world, but their size and complexity can lead us to punch the “ignore” button on the world. But we cannot, we must not, fall into that trap and tune out the momentous signs on the world horizon. (more…)
